ITD Avalanche Program Weather Station Rehab Project

Reliable weather stations are necessary tools for avalanche forecasting and mitigation.  In the winter of 2017, The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) updated a network of three weather stations along Highway 21, a remote highway in central Idaho with a significant avalanche problem.  The ITD Avalanche Safety Program in Lowman, Idaho is responsible for forecasting and mitigating avalanches along this and other highway corridors across Idaho. This project restored the ITD’s access to critical data needed for avalanche forecasting and the protection of public safety.
